Wireless automation – the future of production line integration at Advanced Manufacturing UK
Some of the biggest names in industrial networking – including Honeywell, ISA and Siemens - will be ‘taking to the stage’ at the Mtec Sensors, Measurement & Instrumentation exhibition (Birmingham NEC, April 27 & 28) as part of the show’s free education programme.

Focusing on how wireless industrial networking holds the key to more efficient and effective production line integration, Mtec’s ‘Wireless Theatre’ will highlight the enabling technologies, including for example, a common wireless standard and Ethernet-based automation architecture for factory and process automation.

Out on the Advanced Manufacturing UK show floor, too, a number of exhibitors will be displaying and demonstrating products of interest.

For example, National Instruments is a pioneer of the concept of virtual instrumentation - the idea of combining open, intuitive graphical programming software with powerful modular hardware to give unparalleled flexibility in the design and implementation of user-defined systems. By adopting this approach, users simplify development, increase productivity and dramatically reduce timescales.

The company’s stand will display the latest product innovations in virtual instrumentation and graphical system design through modular hardware, powerful software and advanced custom off-the-shelf platforms - for example, the LabVIEW 2009 platform-wide software update and the new WSN platform.

This is a NI wireless sensor network platform that provides a complete remote monitoring solution consisting of NI LabVIEW graphical programming software and new reliable, low-power wireless nodes for remote measurements.

• Part of Advanced Manufacturing UK, Mtec is the UK and Ireland’s primary showcase for technology related to instrumentation, measurement, sensors and control relating to process and manufacturing industries. It will highlight sensors, hardware, software, techniques, information processing systems, automatic data acquisition and applications for control, for example.

• Advanced Manufacturing UK will incorporate these co-located manufacturing–focused events: MEDTEC UK medical device manufacturing; Mtec Sensors, Measurement & Instrumentation; Machine Building & Automation; VTX Vision Technology Exhibition; 3C Contamination Control & Cleanroom Products and Practical Vacuum.
